A Report of Peer Observation
Peer observation, a
section of Practicum (Teaching Practice) gave me some insight by observing the
classes of my friends. I observed five (5) classes of my peer (friends). I
observed one class at the time of Micro Teaching and four classes on Student
(Classroom) teaching, in the presence of Supervisor. The detail of the
activities of student-teachers that I found at the time of observation is
presented below:
My first peer observation
was at the time of micro teaching. SapanaAcharya
was the student-teacher and she was teaching Communicative English of B.Ed.
second year. Her appearance in the class was pleasing and confident. She was
clean and in formal dress. Although her lesson was not based on previous one,
the objectives of the lesson were clear. She started the lesson very
interestingly by motivating the students. The subject matter was relevant to
the curriculum. She had command over the subject matter. The presentation was
logical and illustrations were appropriate. Her language was appropriate, it
was clear and voice was commanding. The materials were appropriate and properly
used. The use of blackboard was also proper.Students were highly motivated and
participated in discussion. They were active. Her question to the students and
the response of students’ questions was appropriate. She did not summarize the
lesson, but was evaluated. The objectives of the lesson were achieved and
assignment was appropriate.
I observed her class on
Student (Classroom) teaching too. The subject was ‘The Magic of Words’ of class
11. Her appearance in the class, initiation of the lesson, development of the
lesson etc. were somehow similar to the lesson at micro teaching, but were
improved and appropriate. The language was appropriate and clear. Although the
size of materials was not appropriate, she used it properly. Students
participation was good. They were encouraged and participated actively in
discussion. The lesson was summarized and evaluated. The objectives were
achieved and assignment was appropriate.
After observing two
classes, I found her confident. Her language was appropriate and voice was
commanding. She made her students very active, and she had good content
knowledge. If she can make/use the materials of proper size, use necessary
non-verbal activities, and speak carefully/appropriately, her classes will be
very interesting and beneficial.
I also observed the two
classes (Student/Classroom Teaching) of LaxmiBastola.
She was clean and pleasing while entering to the class. She didn’t have much
confidence. She started the lesson interestingly. Her objectives were clear
but, there was mismatch between the activities and objectives. She didn’t have
sufficient command over subject matter. Although her language was accurate, it
was not clear and the voice was not commanding. The use of board was proper.
The size and the use of materials was tolerable.
The participation of students was good. Students
sometimes asked questions and answered the teacher’s questions. She did not
discourage the students but, they were not encouraged. Although they were not
made active, students were participated in activities. I observed her two
lessons. In one lesson, she didn’t summarize but, another lesson was
summarized. Lessons were evaluated and appropriate assignment was given.
After observing her lessons, I found her clean and
pleasing. Her objectives were clear. Her language was accurate. If she can make
students more active, make materials clear and appropriate in size, match the
activities with objectives, her class will be beneficial.
Another class that I
observed was of YadavPariyar. He was
pleasing and clean but, was not confident. His objectives of the lesson were
clear, and he started the class interestingly. The lesson was relevant and the
subject matter was satisfactory. He had command over his subject matter and the
presentation was logical. His language was clear and accurate. His materials
were appropriate to the teaching item but, the size and use was not proper.
He spoke himself much but, the students were not actively
participated. They didn’t ask questions but, answered teacher’s questions. He
used non-verbal communication but, he was unable to solve disciplinary
problems. Students’ points were clarified. He summarized the lesson and evaluated
the students properly. Objectives were achieved and assignment was given.
After observing his lessons, I found that his language
was clear and appropriate. Activities were designed on the basis of objectives.
The presentation was logical. If he can arrange the class properly, make
students’ active participation in activities, and make the materials clear and
use those materials properly, the class/teaching will be better.
